Police across Guangdong province detained at least 1,350 suspects in a campaign performed in cooperation with their Hong Kong and Macao counterparts late last month.

Police across Guangdong province detained at least 1,350 suspects in a campaign performed in cooperation with their Hong Kong and Macao counterparts late last month.

According to a statement released by the Guangdong Department of Public Security, police in the southern province also seized 65 different kinds of firearms, 14,147 bullets and 1.07 kilograms of drugs after taking action on more than 920 criminal cases during the campaign.

More than 14,000 entertainment venues and 23,000 vehicles were inspected during the campaign, the statement said.

An operation aimed at fighting organized and cross-borders crime simultaneously took place in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions on May 22 and 23.

In Shanwei, a coastal city in eastern Guangdong, police detained 20 suspected gang members, including three Vietnamese, after cracking a major illegal immigration case in cooperation with counterparts from Shenzhen and Dongguan.

Meanwhile, 20 stowaways, including 13 Vietnamese, were detained when they wanted to sneak into Guangdong by boat.

In Dongguan, police detained a total of 53 suspects and seized 47 different kinds of guns after cracking down on a major case involving weapons.

Police from Zhongshan, a Pearl River Delta city, detained 12 suspects in a raid of a secret den that stored and sold weapons.

The police work has dealt with a heavy blow to organized and cross-border crimes in the prosperous province and helped ensure a sound social order and environment for economic construction in the Greater Bay Area, the statement said.

Despite the achievement, more campaigns will be launched in the months to come, as Guangdong police will not relax their vigilance, the statement said.
